brombshells in the general petraeus scandal. now general john allen is connected to jill kelley, details ahead. plus a late-night search by the fbi of paula broadwell's home in charlotte. all of this as we face wide-swinging weather patterns that seem to defy anything we've seen before. breaking new s overnight in the scandal that brought down general petraeus. now the man who oversaw general petraeus in the afghanistan war is under investigation himself. general john allen is accused of "inappropriate communications" with jill kelley, the florida woman whose complaints of e-mail harassment started the initial investigation. a senior defense official traveling with panetta says 20,000 to 30,000 pages of epail and other documents from general allen's communications with kelley are under review. the official says general allen disputes engaging in any wrong doing in the matter. the fbi referred the matter to the department of defense for investigation on sunday. early this morning secretary panetta directed that the defense department's inspector general investigate. last night fbi agents went t

and top afghanistan commander john allen. the pentagon is now investigating general allen for allegedly sending thousands of inappropriate e-mails to kelley but allen is saying he did nothing wrong and the president and the army are standing by him. >> the president thinks very highly of general allen and his service to his country. as well as the job he has done in afghanistan. >> i believe john allen until somebody proves otherwise i believe that he did nothing inappropriate. >> that was white house spokesman jay carney and former army vice chief of staff peter tee ellie. jill kelley also received threatening letters from paula broadwell. now a 911 call is coming to light of kelley telling dispatchers saying she needed diplomatic protection. as the scandal widens, broadwell is holing herself up in the home of her brother near rock creek park. a jogger found broadwell's lost driver's license in the park and turned into the police. more bill is right after the break. stay with us. we have a big, big hour

high-ranking military official, commander of the forces in afghanistan, john allen. florida socialite jill kelley complained about harassing e-mails and contacted a friend at the fbi. the account was found to have belonged to paula broadwell. she was given access to david petraeus. locate the was evidence of an affair between petraeus and miss broadwell. the information was leak and petraeus resigned. as more information trickled out, the story got crazier. the harassing e-mails revealed to be not so threatening. the investigation moved forward because of kel little's friendship with the fbi agent she contacted to complain about the e-mails. a friendship that involved the agent's sharing photo of himself. these photos caused the agent to be remove and launched an investigation into his own actions. then this morning and perhaps the otest turn yet reports surfaced of 20,000 to 30,000 pages of e-mails connecting general john allen to kelley. john allen took control of the forces in afghanistan after general

right, john. always great to see you. to the economics. senior economist at wells fargo. how do you see this? >> i am afraid we will at least slide a little bit over the cliff. there are four elements to the fiscal cliff that are absolutely going to happen. the social security tax. the new healthcare taxes as they go along with obamacare or so affordable care act. federal funding will end. all of that together. it is 100% certainty that that will happen. connell: that is actually a very good point to bring up those issues. you paint this picture that it is not like pushing grandma over the cliff. we are calling to the edge of the cliff. what does it mean for the economy. what kind of a deal can only reach? >> it certainly is a possibility. we do not have that in our outlook. we have growth in the first quarter. see. what do you assume to do that? >> we assume we will get some compromise on taxes. obama getting reelected, we are likely to see a tax increase. we will let the tax cuts expire, they will reinstate them after the first of the year. they will technically be voting for a tax cu
